REFLECTION OF A MARTYR

~~~*Chorus*~~~
A glimpse in the mirror reveals her
The shining auburn hair a dusty gray
Her complexion isn't flawless like it once was
Time has left its brand upon her face
The fluid motion of her body’s not complying
With the aged reflection in the mirror
It’s in the eyes staring back she sees the wonder,
Subtle recognition, fragile fear
~~*~~
She was a gentle beauty with a hard life
Her Daddy was the hero in this play
Her Mommy did not condone her daydreams
But she surrendered and looked the other way
She left home to marry her prince charming
He wasn't quite as gallant as he’d seemed
She would strive until they labeled her a martyr
Not once forsaking him or her dreams
They raised their children in a good home
He finally grew into a noble man
She said farewell to her ghosts of hesitation
And they took on tribulation hand in hand
~~~*Chorus*~~~
A glimpse in the mirror reveals her
The shining auburn hair a dusty gray
Her complexion isn't flawless like it once was
Time has left its brand upon her face
The fluid motion of her body’s not complying
With the aged reflection in the mirror
It’s in the eyes staring back she sees the wonder,
Subtle recognition, fragile fear
~~*~~

He was there to witness his kids growing
Finding a happily-ever-after of their own
And she was lying there beside him in the morning
When the Good Lord, far too early, called him home

She never bent like a willow with the nightmare
The agony of her family through his death
She was, once again, the selfless martyr
Encouraging them all with every breath

Like a mirror, she saw a touch of his reflection
In her children, or a Grandchild’s face
She would smile and then hold back the river
That did threaten the weakened dam to break
~~~*~~~
Time has sifted in through the doorway
She has persevered through love, loss, and fate
Blessed by a family that adores her
Knowing every sacrifice she’s made
When the wind shifts, and time finds its destination
There is a beauty through the evidence of age
A martyr for the lives she has protected
For the mighty altruistic love she gave…..
~~~*Chorus*~~~
A glimpse in the mirror reveals her
The shining auburn hair a dusty gray
Her complexion isn't flawless like it once was
Time has left its brand upon her face
The fluid motion of her body’s not complying
With the aged reflection in the mirror
It’s in the eyes staring back she sees the wonder,
Subtle recognition, fragile fear
~~*~~
