IN A WAR

Danny was a baby
When his Daddy went to war
He always used to ask me
What did they take Daddy for

I tried to explain to him
Though he wasn't very old
People have to rid themselves
Of tension in their souls

So they call their fellow man
To ease the pain and fight
Your Daddy was a patriot
That’s why he lost his life

~~~*Chorus*~~~
Oh…the bleeding of the dead
Turned the muddy waters red
Young men dying without their families there
Oh…there was nothing we could do
With the anguish we all knew
In a war
Your only hope is prayer
While my child slept at night
I prayed, I hurt, I cried
Bless the Mothers and the Wives
Of the brave young men who've died
~~*~~
I knew I would not raise my Son
Completely on my own
For I was taught , With God,
Not a soul wanders alone
Danny knew his father
Would be waiting with our Lord
He never blamed his Country
That we’d lost him to its war
~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
But me, I blamed the President
I railed against the Government
I knew that when he left
He would stay gone
Because he was a Patriot
He'd give this Country all he's got
And fight until he died
In Vietnam
So many young men would be no more...
And my only hope was prayer
In a War

~~~*Chorus*~~~
Oh…the bleeding of the dead
Turned the muddy waters red
Young men dying without their families there
Oh…there was nothing we could do
With the anguish we all knew
In a war
Your only hope is prayer
While my child slept at night
I prayed, I hurt, I cried
Bless the Parents and the Wives
Of the brave young men who've died
~~~*~~~
Lord Please Bless Your Sons
For the freedom that's been won
~~*~~
