AN HONEST MAN

My Daddy was a policeman
He and his partner had a source
He gave officers names …spoke loud and plain
Told them who was dirty on the force

I was in the back seat …yeah… I heard him
I’d called Daddy,  just to get a lift
He said Girl…you know that I shouldn't
We are in the middle of a shift

We didn't even get to our apartment
Those traitors trapped us on the streets
Daddy rammed a squad car by the alley
Using himself to shield me

 ~~~*Chorus*~~~
Daddy handed me the keys,
His wallet, and a gun
Said don’t stop until you have to
And don’t trust anyone
I’ll hold them off
As long as I can
Said …I love you baby
Find an honest man
I could hear the sirens
See the flashing of the lights
Daddy was shooting at them
I was running for my life
~~*~~
I can't go to my friends...when there's danger on the wind
I'm being followed, and I have no plans
I know I'm all alone, I just have to make it home
Daddy said to find an honest man
The neighbors were pounding on their ceiling
I know I  had never screamed so loud
Too soon they were beating on my front door
I hollered louder… just to drown them out
They said they were calling the cops in
I screamed ~~~ do whatever pleases you
I was packing a bag of my memories
Wondering what the hell I was to do
I closed my eyes so I could see my Daddy
Had to find an honest man, a trusted friend
Those dirty pigs shot Daddy in the city
For twenty years he’d been one of them
~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
I watched two honest men lose their lives tonight
And I know they died for me to survive
Well, I'm going after the bad guys with this gun
They'll never live to take another life
~~*~~

Daddy had talked about a rookie
Said if he was his Son …he would be proud
I called and I told the kid what happened,
Grabbed my bag of memories, and walked out

That Rookie pulled up in a squad car
Asked if I was ready for a fight
I said let’s go hunting, pulled out my gun,
And we disappeared into the night

We had formed a bond, before that night was done
We were like ghosts drifting through the haze
We ended their careers, no hesitation here
We mourned my Daddy after dues were paid

 ~~~*Chorus*~~~
Daddy handed me the keys,
His wallet, and a gun
Said don’t stop until you have to
And don’t trust anyone
I’ll hold them off
As long as I can
Said …I love you baby
Find an honest man
I could hear the sirens
See the flashing of the lights
Daddy was shooting at them
I was running for my life
~~*~~
He took me to his house as the sun rose
Hugged me goodbye at the door
Said he’d see me after work, smiled away the hurt
And said you don’t have to worry anymore…
I felt safe and sound, by the time that I laid down
Whispered Daddy as I drifted off to sleep
Vengeance is done…a new life has begun
I felt a gentle touch …brush against my cheek
~~~*Finale*~~~
That night in my dreams  there was no fear and screams
There was Daddy ...as he walked me down the aisle
When we reached it's end, He released me to him
And as he let go of my hand...
He said be happy...
Go love your honest man
~~~*~~~
