STILL BRUSHING FINGERTIPS

It all was so simple
When I was your baby
You kissed all my small wounds
And dried every tear

Little league baseball
Trips to the circus
Prayers at my bedtime
You calmed every fear

Childhood went by
Peaceful and playful
Days of sweet laughter
Nights safe and warm

I grew up in a family
Protected by God's love
Saw nothing of danger
Safe in Mom and Dad's arms

You swam me through waters
As smooth as fine crystal
No turns to maneuver
No chance I could drown

Now you don’t understand me
I’m fighting rough waters
The current is vicious
And pulling me down

~~~*Chorus*~~~
We are tied by our heartstrings
There’s a prayer on your lips
I am not lost forever
We are still brushing fingertips
Please don’t try to save me
I can’t hear for the water
I will find my footing
And make it out on my own
I’m hanging on to those heartstrings
I just have to deal with
The destruction of everything
I have ever known
~~*~~
I know it’s not easy
Watching me fight for my life
To see the confusion
And fear in my eyes
No don’t try to save me
I need you strong on the shore
I must work out in my mind
Why things aren't like before
I must swim through the changes
Of how it all came to this
I’m hanging on to those heartstrings
And we’re still brushing fingertips
~~~*Chorus*~~~
We are tied by our heartstrings
There’s a prayer on your lips
I am not lost forever
We are still brushing fingertips
Please don’t try to save me
I can’t hear for the water
I will find my footing
And make it out on my own
I’m hanging on to those heartstrings
I just have to deal with
The destruction of everything
I have ever known
~~*~~

~~~*Finale*~~~
Know that I love you
Keep that prayer on your lips
I am not lost forever
We are still brushing fingertips…
~~*~~
