SOMETHING CAN BE DONE

I saw that little boy again
On my way home from work
Wearing ripped-up jeans
And a too small Raiders shirt
He never looks up from the sidewalk
I've never seen him smile
He can’t be more than five
Where’s the Mother of that child

I called the station twice last week
And got the run-around
“No one’s reported that kid lost
So he surely can’t need found..
His parents are somewhere
I’m sure he’s not alone..
Mind your business mister
Forget him and go home”

~~~*Chorus*~~~
I see them everywhere
They travel through my dreams
With hungry haunted eyes
Full of desperate pleas
So many children helpless
Scared and all alone
A roof over their heads
But no place they can call home
Can’t anybody hear them crying
I know I’m not alone
The more hearts that come together
The faster something can be done
Something can be done
That’s why we’re here
Not to shut our eyes
Not to plug our ears
We may have to help them
One by one
Tear down the walls
Something can be done
She was selling their food for drugs
Behind the local bar
With three little faces pressed
Against the window of her car
When our eyes met through the darkness
She dared me to interfere
I shined my lights on her license plates
And put my phone up to my ear
When I told the officer what went down
He groaned on the other end
Said “Come on down to the station
I am here for you my friend”
I could feel the tears free-falling
I thanked God for an answer sent
Knowing today, in some small way,
There may be help for them
~~~*Chorus*~~~
I see them everywhere
They travel through my dreams
With hungry haunted eyes
Full of desperate pleas
So many children helpless
Scared and all alone
A roof over their heads
But no place they can call home
Can’t anybody hear them crying
I know I’m not alone
The more hearts that come together
The faster something can be done
Something can be done
That’s why we’re here
Not to shut our eyes
Not to plug our ears
We may have to help them
One by one
Tear down the walls
Something can be done
