GRANDMA SAID

We spent the summer on Grandma’s farm
Mom wasn't feeling very good
She hugged and kissed each one of us
Said she’d be back when she could

There were five of us all under ten
And though we didn't know it then
Mama wasn't coming back at all
We lost her in the fall

Grandma kept us on the farm
She never tried to find our Dad
She held us all in loving arms
And said We are all we have
My Grandma said…

~~~*Chorus*~~~
If you see someone who looks different
Don’t you point or stare
Before you go to sleep at night
You had better say your prayers
You will respect your elders
Always watch your mouth
If you see someone in need
You stop and help them out
I won’t raise a child who's lazy
Never steal and do not lie
When I tell you what to do
Don’t you ever ask me why
She said the Good Lord will provide
He’ll welcome us with open arms
Just listen to me, do well in school,
And work hard on this farm
~~*~~
Now there are five of us all over twenty
Educated, loving , and strong
We hold hands and pray at the dinner table
Even though our Grandma’s gone
We have our own families,
Some live in different States
But we meet here every summer
To work on Grandma’s place
Our kids will grow up like we did
In strong and loving arms
They’ll be taught what Grandma said
Right here on this farm
Grandma said ...
~~~*Chorus*~~~
If you see someone who looks different
Don’t you point or stare
Before you go to sleep at night
You had better say your prayers
You will respect your elders
Always watch your mouth
If you see someone in need
You stop and help them out
I won’t raise a child who's lazy
Never steal and do not lie
When I tell you what to do
Don’t you ever ask me why
She said the Good Lord will provide
He’ll welcome us with open arms
Just listen to me, do well in school,
And work hard on this farm
~~*~~
