LAKE OF GLASS

She presented herself
Like a lake of glass
Surface-perfect and pristine

Never would have guessed
The mire and the mess
That lay-in-waiting underneath

It came from down below
And it grabbed a hold
I was thrashing just to catch my breath

The lake of glass
Became a churning mass
Dragging me to the brink of death

I fought to stay alive
I wanted to survive
I clawed my way onto a bank of grass

Vowed to never fall for,
Be consumed, or crawl for
A woman like a lake of glass

~~~*Chorus*~~~
Yeah…
I survived the deception
Of painted perfection
Didn't see the signs of her decay
Layer by layer
Not a glimpse until
The final one was stripped away
I was mistaken
She wasn't gold, but brass
A tempest, not a lake of glass
~~*~~
Still see the pure image
That is reflected
From dreaming to wide awake
Oh, and it still feels
So alive and real
My dreams don't offer an escape
I have to wonder why
In the moonlit sky
Out of every star that shines
The one I chose for me
It just had to be
The fallacy that I've described
~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
Some may wonder now…what the outcome was
Did he survive…what came to pass
I was the cyclone...the raging storm
That forged a river through the lake of glass
Yeah….I conquered the pretender…
Stripped away her mask
And forged a river through the lake of glass…
~~*~~

~~~*Chorus*~~~
Yeah…
I survived the deception
Of painted perfection
Didn't see the signs of her decay
Layer by layer
Not a glimpse until
The final one was stripped away
I was mistaken
She wasn't gold, but brass
A tempest, not a lake of glass
~~*~~
