MERCY

Through the bars
A trace of scars
Some I will never see
Knitted brows
A constant frown
Intimidating me
A wicked laugh
He turns his back
But then he is betrayed
Wonder why
I want to cry
I saw his shoulders shake

~~~*Chorus*~~~
Yeah, I was there to witness
A hardened criminal break
He sobbed when he was broken
Begged forgiveness for mistakes
It was not impossible
To reel in my hate
Request for absolution
Can never come too late
Mercy
Mercy's what it takes
~~*~~
Through the bars
Heard his guitar
Cells quiet as a crypt
Soulful song
Of every wrong
Passed his remorseful lips
A sorry man
Who always ran
Away from his mistakes
Broke today
I heard him say
Mercy
Mercy's what it takes
~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
I've never tolerated
Did not extend my grace
Could not abide the ease of lies
Spoken to my face
I'd rather turn and walk away
You live with your mistakes
 I did not expect to feel
The way I felt today
Mercy
Mercy got in the way
~~*~~

~~~*Chorus*~~~
Yeah, I was there to witness
A hardened criminal break
He sobbed when he was broken
Begged forgiveness for mistakes
It was not impossible
To reel in my hate
Request for absolution
Can never come too late
Mercy
Mercy's what it takes
~~*~~
