TIME TO SAY GOODBYE

Sitting on a bench, outside the church
Was a little girl of five
I’d only seen her once, drinking some punch
When her Grandma was alive
Tears were leaving traces, on her little face and
She just let them fall
Soaking the dress, that her Grandma sewed
For her favorite doll
I wanted to hold her, offer up my shoulder
In the end, I let her cry
Sometimes you can’t, lessen the pain
When it’s time to say goodbye

~~~*Chorus*~~~
Accept the rain fall
Fill the barrel up
Let it pour over the sides
The clouds will depart
That were cold and dark
Once you have learned to cry
Won’t be the last time
They gather in the sky
Love’s measured by the pain felt
When it’s time to say goodbye
~~*~~
Finally I walked over, and sat down
Handed her a handkerchief
Her tiny hands, smeared it all around
The wetness on her cheeks
She looked up at me, with her saddened eyes
Asked, “Were you Grandma’s friend”?
When I said I’d loved her, that I would miss her
The tears began again
~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
I felt the release
The bursting of the clouds
On the bench outside the church
Cried with the child, sobbing in my arms
Looking to absolve the hurt
Somehow it felt so right, to give in and cry
It was time
It was time to say goodbye
~~~*~~~
~~~*Chorus*~~~
Accept the rain fall
Fill the barrel up
Let it pour over the sides
The clouds will depart
That were cold and dark
Once you have learned to cry
Won’t be the last time
They gather in the sky
Love’s measured by the pain felt
When it’s time to say goodbye
