WASTED GIFTS

On one side of the highway there's a mansion
It looks like a great castle on the hill
On the other, a family with a farmhouse
Five horses and a tractor in the field
As a child, I always chose the mansion
So impressive to the untrained mind
As a teen, I fell in love with the farmhouse
I grew up, the castle stayed behind

~~~*Chorus*~~~
I never saw a soul
Enjoy that house of stone
They were shadows in the lights at night
The farm was always busy
With people in and out
Family that brought the place to life
Some people, they turn old
But their minds don't ever grow
That is why they don't know what I know
Life is a wasted gift
If you don't truly live
The house of stone has never been a home
~~*~~
On one side of the highway, they are living
On the other, they hide from the world
Are you like them or me, bright shiny plastic beads
Or a distant string of cultured pearls
~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
I guess I'll always want the macaroni necklace
I wear it with my diamonds everywhere
Pictures of my boys, playing outside with their toys
And my girls with ribbons in their hair
I am thankful for this life
It is such a precious gift
It's the best ya'll !
It's the best when you know how to live
~~*~~

~~~~*Chorus*~~~
I never saw a soul
Enjoy that house of stone
They were shadows in the lights at night
The farm was always busy
With people in and out
Family that brought the place to life
Some people, they turn old
But their minds don't ever grow
That is why they don't know what I know
Life is a wasted gift
If you don't truly live
The house of stone has never been a home
~~*~~
