THIS MAN

The nurse said to go on in
It was time to say goodbye
It took everything I had inside
Not to lose it all, and cry

I walked up to the bed
Daddy opened up his hand
I lifted it to touch my face
And stared down at the man

~~~*Chorus*~~~
This man, he raised me
Touched every aspect of my life
My manners, my expressions
And my attitude on life
Go on living it, without him
Lord I don't think I can
I felt desperate
He knew it
This man
~~*~~
He smiled at me weakly
Said my time has expired
My life's been through
I've hung on for you
But, baby, Daddy's tired
Now, I don't want to see
The fear I'm seeing now
I didn't raise a coward
It's not a trait that I've endowed
~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
Daddy said don't be afraid
Don't waste your time on grief
Recall the great years we have shared
Misery's a low-down thief
Don't you let it rob you
Divert you from your dreams
Laugh when you feel it rising
And your hopes will be redeemed
~~*~~

~~~*2nd Chorus*~~~
This man, he raised me
Touched every aspect of my life
My manners, my expressions
And my attitude on life
Go on living it, without him
He's made me know I can
Had it in me
He knew it
This man
~~*~~
