DRINK AND DRIVE

He woke up in the hospital
Not knowing why he was there
He couldn't move his legs at all
And it hurt to take in air

He saw his wife beside the bed
Tried to ask her why she cried
And he couldn't back away from
The accusation in her eyes

She held something in her hands
Shook it out in front of him
The past came back, like a vicious slap
The room spun, as the lights dimmed

~~~*Chorus*~~~
You don’t shove your hand in boiling water
Use your foot to spring a trap
You don’t dance out on a busy freeway
Shake a Grizzly from his nap
You don’t buy a box of rat poison
Sit and eat it like popcorn
Poor yourself a nice glass of bleach
And then drink it till it’s gone
You don’t walk up to a total stranger
Say I’m going to take your life
Well you might as well go and do it all
If you’re going to drink and drive
~~*~~
She heard the sirens, raised her head
Tried to climb out of her car
She'd only had a couple drinks
With her girlfriends at the bar
When she could finally stand alone
When the dust, and her mind cleared
She saw a smashed-up vehicle
And was sobered by her fear
The driver of the ambulance
Looked at her with unveiled hate
Said, lady she was just sixteen
Pulled a sheet over her face
~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
He lost his Son, he can’t get him back
Ended up a fool, with no second chance
And she killed someone else’s little girl
He’ll never walk again, all she does is cry
The consequence of when you drink and drive
Is the total turning over of your whole world
Finding out that you’re a monster
They’re the sacrifice
Don’t drink and drive
~~*~~

~~~*Chorus*~~~
You don’t shove your hand in boiling water
Use your foot to spring a trap
You don’t dance out on a busy freeway
Shake a Grizzly from his nap
You don’t buy a box of rat poison
Sit and eat it like popcorn
Poor yourself a nice glass of bleach
And then drink it till it’s gone
You don’t walk up to a total stranger
Say I’m going to take your life
Well you might as well go and do it all
If you’re going to drink and drive
~~*~~
