Heading to the river fishing
We stopped at a cafe
Had to top off the thermos
Before we got under way
My buddy headed for the bathroom
I waited at the register
Forgot all about the fishing
The minute I saw her
~~~*1st Chorus*~~~
She could have been a mermaid
With her flaming hair in braids
Her pretty face like waves so pale
Her eyes as green as Tetra scales
Grabbing the counter, I felt faint
At the way her tail swayed
My buddy won’t believe it
I have never felt this way
He thinks that fishing is
All that occupies my brain
~~*~~
My buddy asked, hey you okay
Why’s your face all red like that
He shoved me into my mermaid
When he smacked me on the back
Her arms came up in defense
And I fell right into them
I wanted to kill my buddy
But he is my only friend
We apologized at the same time
She said I’ll fill that thermos up
I said my ideas better,
Why don’t you just come with us
My buddy started coughing
Like something was in his throat
She called in another waitress
And swam with me to the boat
(I mean walked)
But…
~~~*2ond Chorus*~~~
She could have been a mermaid
With her flaming hair in braids
Her pretty face, like waves, so pale
Her eyes as green as Tetra scales
Walking to the truck, I felt faint
At the way her tail swayed
My buddy can’t believe it
That I would feel this way
He thinks that fishing is
All that occupies my brain
~~*~~
Well that was the best fishing trip
That I have ever had
And my buddy liked my mermaid
Once he got done being mad
He was best man at our wedding
Started laughing when it rained
Said this is how it should be
When you marry a mermaid
~~~*Final Chorus*~~~
Yeah…
She could have been a mermaid
With her flaming hair in braids
Her pretty face, like waves, so pale
Her eyes as green as Tetra scales
Here at the alter I feel faint
Knowing how her tail sways
My buddy can’t believe that
There would ever come a day
When there’d me more than fishing
To occupy my brain
