Her shaking hands replaced the tea cup in the saucer
Her wizened brown eyes stared into mine
I held her gaze as I listened to the story
Taking me back into her youth
Another time…
When the Bible was not just a work of fiction
And Our Savior was not shunned
When hatred was reserved for the wicked
Not aimed at every human with a gun
Another time…
When they didn't lock their doors
And bar their windows
In fear of evil wandering the night
You could reach out your hand to help somebody
Without thinking you're endangering your life
~~~*Chorus*~~~
She said ...I never raised my voice to my Mama
And I answered “yes sir” to my Pa
We didn't need a juvenile justice
We all knew our parents were the law
She said I can’t wait to go to Heaven
Though my time on earth
Has been just fine
It’s getting to the point where it won’ t be
Everyone’s forgotten …
No one’s passed on...
Another time…
She wiped away a tear that escaped her
I just held mine in and bowed my head
There wasn't any comfort I could give her
She was dead-on with everything she said
Things are getting worse as the years fly
Slowly losing pride and respect
There are not a lot of memories in my History
That I want to cherish and collect
But this woman made me think about my options
If I ever have children of my own
I don’t want some spoiled duplication
Of the friends and families' kids that I have known
I want to know respect and admiration
See it reflected in my children’s eyes
That is something I will strive for
I’ll just borrow from….
Another time…
~~~*Chorus*~~~
When they didn't raise their to their voice
To their Mama
And answered “yes sir” to their Pa
Didn't need a juvenile justice
They all knew that parents were the law
She said I can’t wait to go to Heaven
Though my time on earth
Has been just fine
It’s getting to the point where it won’ t be
Everyone’s forgotten …
No one’s passed on...
Another time…
