DETERMINED

Your new man’s a workaholic
And his roommate’s always home
He doesn't want to date in public
Says he wants you for his own

You can’t call him at the office
It’s a rule you must abide
He doesn't talk about his past
Swears there’s not a thing to hide

Always shows up with a present
You spend all your time in bed
Said he didn't get your message
His phone must have been dead…..
Sister use your head!
Oh…

~~~*Chorus*~~~
How determined are you girl… to walk away with him
How binding is the bargain… that your heart’s caught up in
Do you honestly believe… that you’re solely adored
Well ditch the delusion girl… Cause there are plenty more
You will have to play his game, to get the deal done
Know there is no guarantee… you’ll be the only one
You fell in love with mayhem… the outcome could be grim
How determined are you girl… to walk away with him
~~*~~
So do not call him anymore
And don’t wait for him at home
His pride will wonder whats going on
When you don’t pick up the phone
He’ll show up at your door real quick
Open it, and grin all sweet
And if you will, be dressed to kill
Tell him you have friends to meet
Brush against him as you lock the door
Leave him with a goodbye kiss
Now you have just become the challenge
That your man can’t resist
Oh you’re good at this!
Once you get the hook inside his mouth
You make sure and set it right
Don’t start to reel him in too fast
Or he will try and fight
Don’t slack off once you know he’s caught
Make him proud to be your man
And give off a little mystery
So he’ll swim into your hands
Just stick to the plan!
Yeah…
~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
You have to be determined
If you want this kind of guy
Stimulate and Electrify
Every corner of his mind
Don’t you let him see it coming
Blindside him constantly
Be a siren and a lady
Always a mystery
That’s determined
~~*~~

~~~*Chorus*~~~
How determined are you girl… to walk away with him
How binding is the bargain… that your heart’s caught up in
Do you honestly believe… that you’re solely adored
Well ditch the delusion girl… Cause there are plenty more
You will have to play his game, to get the deal done
Know there is no guarantee… you’ll be the only one
You fell in love with mayhem… the outcome could be grim
How determined are you girl… to walk away with him
THANKS A LOT
The Ex called to yell this morning
Said you need to watch your Son
And don’t you dare call up your Mom
The minute we get off the phone
I’m putting him in the car right now
We’ll be there in a little while
God, thanks a lot, for the big thumbs up
When I walked her down the aisle
~~~*Chorus*~~~
You Coulda locked the door, every single time
She tried to get in my truck
You coulda trapped me in the elevator
When I went to get the tux
You coulda struck me dumb with lightning
Smote the flowers I would bring
I think it was cruel, to let me play the fool
And give that girl a ring
~~*~~

Well, of course, she had to stop this evening
Yeah, I had a great time with him
But when she knocked on the front door
The sun hid and the clouds moved in
I growled, and said, it’s a little late
For the warnings you perform
Yeah, thanks a lot, for the big thumbs up
That helped me avoid that storm

I get sick each time…I have to see her face
Shudder when I hear her voice
But to see the best thing in my life
I just don’t have any choice
So I stand up straight, hold it all inside
And I try not to throw up
The minute that she is out of sight
I delight in our sweet Son

~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
I don’t believe that everything’s predestined in this life
That God condones all the broken homes
Or the pain of any child
But I do believe that he can see, and judge us, everyone
I joke with him, about the big thumbs up
But can’t thank him near enough
I’ll put up with that Ex
Until my days are done
I've already thanked her once
Now I thank God for my Son
~~*~~
~~~*Chorus*~~~
Thanks a lot…
You didn't lock the door, every single time
She tried to get in my truck
You didn't trap me in the elevator
When I went to get the tux
You didn't strike me dumb with lightning
Smote the flowers I would bring
Yeah it was cruel to let me play the fool
And give that girl a ring
~~*~~
Well God…
It’s all said and done
And I thank You for my Son

ALL THE TIME (a duet)

(Hers)

You can count up every wildflower
In this field where we lay
Every branch on every tree
That grows and gives off shade

You can walk down to the riverbank
Add up every tiny rock
It still won't total near the times
You've occupied my thoughts

Every bubble on the foamy sea
All the feathers on a birds fine wings
Every God-given wonder perfectly combined
You can add them up and not get enough to find

A number near the times...
You've occupied my mind

~~~*Chorus*~~~
You smile and say
Baby don't you see
That's a pure impossibility
But it's nice to know that I am on your mind
All the time
You laugh and pull me close to you
Surrender your heart
Knowing mine beats true
Absently counting every flower that you find
All the time
~~*~~
(His)
You can count up every nut and bolt
In every car that's made
Every cent to every human
Who works to draw a wage
You can walk into a cotton field
Add up every single pod
It still won't total near the times
You've occupied my thoughts
All the hair on horse's manes
Every mile traveled by plane
All things by God and man
Perfectly combined
You can add them up
And not get enough to find
A number near the times
You've occupied my mind
~~~*2nd Chorus*~~~
I smile and say
Baby don't you see
That's a pure impossibility
But it's nice to know that I am on your mind
All the time
You laugh and pull me close to you
Surrender my heart
Knowing yours beats true
Absently counting every penny that I find
All the time
~~*~~

Finale
~~*~~
Yeah..
I know it seems impossible
To love someone so much
That everything becomes a stepping stone
Leading up to their next touch
And every little, tiny thing, in the world, you find
Cannot surpass
No matter what you add
The person on your mind
All the time...
~~*~~

OVERCAST

Mmm mmm mmm…

Ahh ahh ahh…

Oh hazy night…

Release your capture

Let it shine…

Oh dusky sky…

Gift me the pleasure

Of the light…

Believe me when I tell you

This is something that I need

Oh lazy night…

Set the moonlight free

~~~*Chorus*~~~
Oh I wish I had the magic that would cast a crucial spell
I’d wipe the darkness from the skies, and free the light myself
I wouldn’t stand here begging to the grievous, somber gloom
I’d seize the dazzling sun
Harness the lustrous moon
Dispel the mournful…
Overcast of you
~~*~~
Mmm mmm mmm…
Ahh ahh ahh…
Oh cloudy day…
Retreat and scatter
Share the sun…
Oppressive skies…
Grant me the treasure
Of the light…
Believe me when I tell you
It is vital what I plead
Oh dreary day…
Set the sunlight free
~~~*Chorus*~~~
Oh I wish I had the magic that would cast a crucial spell

I’d wipe the darkness from the skies, and free the light myself

I wouldn’t stand here begging to the grievous, somber gloom

I’d seize the dazzling sun

Harness the lustrous moon

Dispel the mournful…

Overcast of you
~~*~~

Mmm mmm mmm…

Ahh ahh ahh…

Oh reverent light…

Received and enforced

In my heart…

Blameless skies…

Forgive my demands

And my plight…

Believe me when I tell you

I was just too hurt to see

The needed light

It was inside me

~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
I let you obscure the beauty… once striking in my life
Solicit the darkness, to shadow what was fine
I was ranting at the heavens, no sanity of mind
You overcast the light, until I pushed you aside
And waged a war for what was mine
I’m enveloped by the brilliance shining through
No overcast of you
~~*~~
~~~*Finale*~~~
Oh I always had the magic that would cast a crucial spell

To wipe the darkness from the skies, and free the light myself

No I don’t stand there begging to the grievous, somber gloom

I seized the dazzling sun

Harnessed the lustrous moon

Dispelled the mournful…

Overcast of you
~~*~~

DRINK AND DRIVE

He woke up in the hospital
Not knowing why he was there
He couldn't move his legs at all
And it hurt to take in air

He saw his wife beside the bed
Tried to ask her why she cried
And he couldn't back away from
The accusation in her eyes

She held something in her hands
Shook it out in front of him
The past came back, like a vicious slap
The room spun, as the lights dimmed

~~~*Chorus*~~~
You don’t shove your hand in boiling water
Use your foot to spring a trap
You don’t dance out on a busy freeway
Shake a Grizzly from his nap
You don’t buy a box of rat poison
Sit and eat it like popcorn
Poor yourself a nice glass of bleach
And then drink it till it’s gone
You don’t walk up to a total stranger
Say I’m going to take your life
Well you might as well go and do it all
If you’re going to drink and drive
~~*~~
She heard the sirens, raised her head
Tried to climb out of her car
She'd only had a couple drinks
With her girlfriends at the bar
When she could finally stand alone
When the dust, and her mind cleared
She saw a smashed-up vehicle
And was sobered by her fear
The driver of the ambulance
Looked at her with unveiled hate
Said, lady she was just sixteen
Pulled a sheet over her face
~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
He lost his Son, he can’t get him back
Ended up a fool, with no second chance
And she killed someone else’s little girl
He’ll never walk again, all she does is cry
The consequence of when you drink and drive
Is the total turning over of your whole world
Finding out that you’re a monster
They’re the sacrifice
Don’t drink and drive
~~*~~

~~~*Chorus*~~~
You don’t shove your hand in boiling water
Use your foot to spring a trap
You don’t dance out on a busy freeway
Shake a Grizzly from his nap
You don’t buy a box of rat poison
Sit and eat it like popcorn
Poor yourself a nice glass of bleach
And then drink it till it’s gone
You don’t walk up to a total stranger
Say I’m going to take your life
Well you might as well go and do it all
If you’re going to drink and drive
NIGHTMARES
He kissed her, and said goodnight
Then drifted off to sleep
She closed her eyes, and silently
Prayed she wouldn't dream
But her cries woke him one more time
Screams broke his tranquil night
He shook her hard, shoved her away
And though she knew it wasn't right
~~~* 1st Chorus*~~~
She said I’m sorry…
It began as a dream
Of a beautiful evening
Before a nightmare took the lead
I can’t control them
Once I fall asleep
You tell me to forget it
But these nightmare’s tunnel deep
~~*~~

He held her, and said I know
That was so wrong and mean
Just go to sleep, I’m sorry
It just gets to me

I will never forgive myself
Not being there, you know
And I can’t help but hate the way
That you can’t let it go

I feel like I am living through
A nightmare just like you
You will always be a victim

And I can't be here for you

~~~*2nd Chorus*~~~
He said I’m sorry…
That you can’t have sweet dreams
That every peaceful evening
Gets destroyed by your screams
You can’t control them
Once you fall asleep
I wish you could forget it
Your nightmares are killing me
~~*~~
He was gone when she got home
The next day after work
She waited for the pain
But his absence didn't hurt
Though she knew she had once loved him
He was now a beaten man
He wasn't where he said he’d be
To meet like they had planned
She didn't want to blame him
When strangers got to her
But this was not the first time
He didn't keep his word
~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
And you have got to know …if someone will be there
So you can learn to do ...what you need to do alone
If you can’t count on someone… that you count on
You’re better off …if you make it on your own
If there’s one thing he’s learned…I hope he learned
You keep your word
Because there are no sweet dreams…
Nightmares tunnel deep
~~*~~

~~~*Final Chorus*~~~
She said I’m sorry…
It began as a dream
Of a beautiful evening
Before a nightmare took the lead
She can’t control them
Once she falls asleep
She won’t forget it
Because nightmares tunnel deep
~~*~~
GENERATION GAP
Grandpa came to stay with us
Mom said he's getting old
Please try not to upset him
Just do as you are told
She put him in my bedroom
Oh man he sure can snore
I've turned into a zombie
I don't sleep well anymore
~~~*Chorus*~~~
You wanna know about
The generation gap
Come and talk to Grandpa
He's an expert on all that
Electronics are the devil's tool
Ink and piercings are not cool
Get your hair off of your ears
Stand up straight
Speak plain and clear
Wear a pair of pants that fit
And turn that music down a bit
Clear the room, so I can nap
There's your generation gap
~~*~~

We started watching old shows
That my Grandpa had
I got hooked on "The Waltons"
"The Andy Griffith Show", and "Mash"

He helps me with my History
Shoot, he lived through most of it
When my friends showed up to jam
I turned it down a bit

Hank said, man what's wrong with you
You're weirder every day
Quit hanging with your Grandpa
You're getting way too strange

~~~*Chorus*~~~
You wanna know about
The generation gap
Come and talk to Grandpa
He's an expert on all that
Electronics are the devil's tool
Ink and piercings are not cool
Get your hair off of your ears
Stand up straight
Speak plain and clear
Wear a pair of pants that fit
And turn that music down a bit
Clear the room, so I can nap
There's your generation gap
~~*~~
Grandpa hid the TV trays
Said, we need family time
We eat at the same table
There's laughter through the night
I went to my first ballgame
We fly kites in the park
Go for a drive on Sundays
And don't get home till dark
I've never been so happy
Feels right in every way
Didn't know what was missing
Till Grandpa came to stay
~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
Now I find it hard to understand
How all us kids got out of hand
We all forgot what decent is
The "Me Generation" really lives
And I find myself laughing at
"Expression of Ourselves"
It's just dis-figuration
Who wants to look like hell
You don't have to agree with me
You're fine right where you're at
I want to be a man like Grandpa
Close that generation gap
~~*~~

~~~*Chorus*~~~
You wanna know about
The generation gap
Come and talk to Grandpa
He's an expert on all that
Electronics are the devil's tool
Ink and piercings are not cool
Get your hair off of your ears
Stand up straight
Speak plain and clear
Wear a pair of pants that fit
And turn that music down a bit
Clear the room, so I can nap
There's your generation gap
~~*~~
WILL YOU HOLD ON
You don't want to soar with me
So you won't even try
Eagles don't hang with turtles
They open up their wings and fly
I'm headed to the destination
I've mapped out for my life
I'll see you, if you get there
Go ahead, and take your time
~~~*Chorus*~~~
Or hold on tight
You too can fly
I'll take you where I hope our dreams come true
Where music is the language
And all words are a song
I'll take you there with me, it's up to you
Will you hold on
~~*~~

You are tired of the travels
Said, you'll stay where you are
The best things don't come easy
You have to fight, and yes it's hard

But when you make your mind up
You knock down walls that rise
You walk until you earn wings
So you can put them on, and fly

~~~*2nd Chorus*~~~
So hold on tight
You too can fly
I'll take you where I hope our dreams come true
Where music is the language
And all words are a song
I'll take you there with me, it's up to you
Will you hold on
~~*~~
You want me to stay here with you
Said, don't put on those wings
Forget how hard the travels
And that we all can change our dreams
Well those words don't apply to me
And I will tell you why
I haven't journeyed this far
To earn the right, but never fly
~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
Don't beat me down when my dreams are found
You've always known my plans
Don't waste, and try to dam the path
To every thing that's built this man
You want to confine a spirit
That breathes through melody
Pulling out the feathers
So that I can't use these wings
~~*~~

~~~*3rd Chorus~~~
Oh just hold on tight
You too can fly
I'll take you where I hope our dreams come true
Where music is the language
And all words are a song
I'll take you there with me, it's up to you
Will you hold on
Will you just hold on
~~*~~
THE WONDER OF YOU
The springs new blossoms
Bathed in the morning dew
A swan’s graceful presence
The skies array of blues
Raw power of stallions
Always free to run
Earth-quenching rainfalls
The Brilliance of the sun
Exquisite Orchids
The sea’s great mysteries
You entering my life…
Phenomenal to me
~~~*Chorus*~~~
Oh the wonder of you …teaching things I never knew
All I hear, smell, and see intensified…
I could say I was receptive to the world I've lived in
Before your enchantment…that would be a lie
Oh , but now I’m so alive… shook the shadows from my eyes
The oppressive view of old, I can’t recall
You entering my life
Phenomenal
~~*~~

The taste off honeycombs
Sweet upon the lips
A baby’s first giggle
A Mother’s healing kiss

The blanket of clover
Over the meadow’s floor
Aroma of the pine trees
White sand , deserted shores

Lullaby of the waves
The salty air we breathe
You entering my life…
Phenomenal to me

~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
On and on, every gift from God, the fire in the sun , the road I’m on
I look at things, I've seen all my life,
They're extraordinary through your eyes
What I once perceived, I can’t recall
The wonder of you
 Phenomenal
~~*~~
~~~*Chorus*~~~
You entering my life
Phenomenal

ME ~ N ~ JOB

I've been wandering this desert
Haven’t seen a single tree
Why’d I leave the gorgeous mountains
That was mighty dumb of me
Oh, and now I’m paying…
Sure hope this misery doesn't last,
That I get out of this desert…
Before this desert kicks my a--
Oh man, I know it can…..

Been floating down this river
Have your heartless self to thank
Shoved me off without the paddles
Stood there laughing on the bank
Oh, and now I’m praying…
Sure hope this current’s not too fast
That it doesn't flip me over
Cause I can’t swim, I never have
Oh man, I need a plan…

~~~* Chorus*~~~
The rain is a falling, as far as I can see
Why is there always a black cloud over me
I become aware
I’m feeling sorry for myself
When there are people out there
Living through an actual Hell
So far I've survived, sometimes have a decent life
And I’m learning how to go with the flow…
When I think I’m screwed
I just read the book of Job
~~*~~
Some guy smashed into my pickup
And it’s not paid for yet
Told the cop he didn't see me
When it’s fire engine red
Oh, and now I’m walking
Sure hope my agent helps me soon
The guy didn't have insurance
And it’s looking like I’m doomed
Oh man, I’m really screwed
I don’t walk around with blinders
Need to see what’s coming next
Took a class on meditation
Helps me when I’m feeling vexed
Oh, and now I’m thinking
This could be some kind of test
That I've passed with flying colors
When I haven’t quit him yet
Oh man,  I must be blessed
~~~*Lyrical Bridge*~~~
Yeah…Me~ N ~ Job are Brothers, but I hope I never see
The torment that afflicted him…my life is pretty sweet
I can make it through these obstacles, consider them a test
Set my mind to overcome... all the chaos and the stress
We may laugh about our scars, you never know…
If you think you've got problems
You just read the book of Job
~~*~~

~~~* Chorus*~~~
The rain is a falling, as far as I can see
Why is there always a black cloud over me
I become aware
I’m feeling sorry for myself
When there are people out there
Living through an actual Hell
So far I've survived, sometimes have a decent life
And I’m learning how to go with the flow…
When I think I’m screwed
 I just read the book of Job
You just read the book of Job
